c)  Readings at Matins:
            * Solemnities and 12 Lessons Feasts - 12 readings with 12 responses (4 responses    after each Nocturn)
            The Lessons are usually Patristic, but sometimes the first ones are from the  Bible;  the last 4 are always Patristic and a comment on the Gospel of the Day.
            * On Sundays (when NOT a Solemnity or Feast), the first 8 lessons are from the Bible,  the last 4 are always Patristic and a comment on the Gospel of the day.
             * 3 Lesson Feasts & 3 Lesson Days (ordinary days in winter), 3 Bible lessons with 3 responses after the 1st Nocturn, one Patristic reading after the 2nd Nocturn.
             * On ordinary days in summer, one long reading from the Bible, with small response after the 1st Nocturn, and one Patristic reading after the 2nd Nocturn.

             * The entire Bible is to be read within 3 years.

             * There are now 3 series of readings for Solemnities and 12 Lesson Feasts, and 2 series of readings for the Patristic reading at the end of the 2nd Nocturn on 3 Lesson Feasts and ordinary days.

d)    This psalter is specific to Sundays and weekdays in ordinary time.
            In addition, Carthusians  have their own very ancient usage of the
            Office of the Blessed Virgin, which has always been prayed in the Cell,
            though with complete choir ceremonial.  The Carthusians also pray the
            Office of the Dead once weekly in the cell.  At the presenttime,
            both these offices may be commuted (i.e., substituted with another form
            of prayer) with permission from the local Prior or Prioress.
